Question…..what do you give friends that are football fanatics? Answer…..a gingerbread house decorated in their favorite team’s colors! In this case….the San Francisco 49ers. I did not go overboard on this house, and kept it conservative as I didn’t have a lot of time, but I think it’s a good starting point for my possible creation next year!
My friends have season passes to the 49ers, and each Christmas we exchange little gifts. In the past I’ve gotten them just little 49er items, but this year I thought “why not make a 49er house?” I took my small basic house pattern and started there. (I made a small house because they don’t live in town so there’s no space in their car for a large one.) I knew I wanted to do a logo on the roof, and the easiest way I knew of doing that was to make a cookie out of it. I printed out the logo and traced it onto rice paper with an edible marker.
I attached the rice paper to the cookie with royal icing, and then filled it in with colored royal icing. I improvised a little bit, and instead of including gold onto the cookie, I painted the roof using gold pearl dust diluted with clear spirits (gin).
I used chocolate covered footballs for the top of the roof, and additional decoration on the side. I finished it off with a name plaque on the front of the house, and made it just a little Christmas-y by adding candy canes as well.
I hope this inspires you to think a bit outside the box the next time you want to do something special for the people you love. :)
